EXCERPT

Chris rounded the stairs that led to the first level of his loft and looked out of the peep hole. Sure enough, it was his son’s mother and she looked lit up. He took a deep breath and opened the door.
She stumbled as the door swung open.
“Why are you knocking on my door at three o’clock in the morning?”
“Because I need to t-talk,” she stuttered, “to you!”
“No, Sandra, you need to go home. Where is Christopher?” he asked.
“Well, he ain’t gone be at the club with me!” she stated matter-of-factly. “So that was a dumb question.”
Chris sighed, unable to continue the dance they did at his front door. “Go home,” he said, and slammed the door in her face.
“Oh no you didn’t!” he heard her say from the other side of the door.
Boom! Boom! Boom! She beat on the door again and crossed her arms. “I’m not leaving until you talk to me, so you might as well come back to the door. I don’t care if your neighbors call the police. I will stand here until they arrive!”
Tiana pushed past Chris. He reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her.
“Look, this heffa ain’t going away, and I’m about to give her a piece of my mind. She’s ruining our night!”
“Baby, calm down, I got this.”
Tiana huffed. “I can’t tell!”
She pivoted on her heels and went to the kitchen. The banging on the door continued. She shook her head and ran her fingers through her hair. Looking in the cupboard she removed a wine glass and popped the cork on a bottle of Emmolo Merlot that had been sitting on ice since their earlier tryst. She rolled her eyes as she listened to Chris in the front room arguing with his son’s mother. This is the last thing she needed. She sipped from the glass and closed her eyes as the caramelized plum, brown spices and rich fruit flavor oozed down her throat. She took another swig; it was delicious, but what would’ve been better is if she could get back into bed with Chris.
“Enough of this,” she said.
Tiana made her way back to the living room where the couple was still arguing. She cleared her throat and stepped into view, letting her robe open just enough to show off her bare chest and panties. She took another swig of her wine as she watched a look of fury cross the woman’s face. Tiana almost laughed. Chris didn’t look amused, but he wouldn’t dare tell her otherwise.
“Baby, should I go? I don’t want to cause any trouble,” Tiana purred innocently.
Chris gave her a knowing look. He knew that she was aware that their argument had nothing to do with her. Tiana just wanted to make her presence known.

The Review

BOOK 1:

Hello everyone!! When I saw the cover of this first book, I was curious to know what was hiding those hands and that clock , without doubt, the story behind this cover is very good.

It is a magical world and a well made, original story , with good characters actors , filled with many emotions and a clear and light writing.

The magic is present and will hand our protagonist Baxter , Our female protagonist, who gets her magical powers she turns sixteen eleven . Is determined and has a good grasp of sarcasm . And his way in this saga is about to begin , is a strong main character and very well run . You win from the start.

Besides the adventure behind the magic of Baxter, will be Declan and Jack. They will be willing to care for or want something more with Baxter, and time differently , and of course way into history.

I like the way that has story , is very imaginative , full of other fun moments of excitement and others with unexpected turns , that includes the end. It has a unique and distinctive style .

My Stars 4

BOOK 2:

In this second book we provide more twists and a significant change in the history of Baxter, we have more action.

Without leaving aside what had already been achieved with the first book, the author fills us with more intrigue mystery, emotion and of course the occasional funny moment with Baxter and his sarcasm.

The characters we already knew in the first book, evolucionarion gradually and significantly. And new characters take their position to go deeper into the world and fight against the enemy.

I loved the book, I definitely like it light, and keep the line work on the first book, but evolve in a meaningful way. The creation of this world and its characters is very clear and well maintained. It is a YA book you should add it to your wish list for reading.
P.S. I am waiting the 3rd book

Fissure Excerpt

My tooth cuts into my lip as I stare at the box. The feeling of familiarity, of camaraderie, is there. Something in my brain wants me to remember, but I can’t reach those memories to explain why I want to talk about boys with her, play around and be plain silly.

Once again, pain surges as I think of how my mother did this to me. She erased Dare from my memory, not thinking twice about what she was taking away from me…a friend who belongs to this crazy Magical world, someone who would have been there to support me and talk to me before the Interment.

My mother might have been trying to protect me, but in the end, she failed. Not because she didn’t try hard, but because she left me with no recollection of the past, and no knowledge of the people around me, leaving me open to their attacks.

“There’s a part of me that remembers,” I say in a quiet voice, “but it’s like staring at a blank canvas after the pictures have been removed. There’s nothing, just the marks of the pictures that were once there.”

“Zachary says Mara wanted to protect you,” Dare says.

I open the box and pick up one of the pictures. I recognize myself in it as a six-year-old, running after a much taller blonde girl. Turning it over, I recognize my mother’s excellent penmanship: Dare and Baxter, East Hamptons, 2002.

“She did an awesome job,” I reply bitterly as Dare reaches for another picture from the pile.

“Hey.” Her eyes are as stern as her voice. “She did what she thought was best.”

“I know…but now she’s dead, and I’m left to deal with all this crap.” I try to speak as softly as I can. “I…I don’t mean crap-crap…I mean like…”

Dare’s smile is infectious. “It’s a crappy life sometimes. I mean, I can’t imagine that having people trying to kill you or take your ability is any fun.”

I nod. “I wish I knew more than what I do.”

“Well, you can start with these.” She picks another picture and holds it up for me to see. “And you can ask me anything. I’ll make sure to answer, and if I can’t, we’ll find the answers together.

Excerpt

“We ran out of chocolate chips.” Dan put a full plate of pancakes on the table. “Do you think you’ll survive a few days without your fix?”

“I’ve more across the hallway, and you can fetch them later.” if drenched the pancakes with maple syrup, took a bite, and moaned. “Amazingly good! I’m impressed. You dominate the kitchen like it’s your boardroom. Who taught you how to cook?”

Dan poured orange juice for us both, as well as a cup of coffee for him, and a glass of milk for me. He sat next to me, covered his own pancakes cautiously—not Becca style—cut a piece of pancake, and ate it. “Hmm they are good, but they don’t seem to affect me the way they do you.” he chuckled.

I awaited his answer curiously.

“My last foster family.” He’d gone through more than one foster homes? “My foster mother taught her surrogate children to fend for themselves. Our chores included cleaning, cooking, and washing dishes and clothes. No, she didn’t want cheap labor. She did it to teach us how a normal house hold functioned, and to care for ourselves.”

“She sounds smart. I’m guessing you helped her—or them— after you became the all-powerful Daniel Brightmore?” if asked, while sneaking my fork onto his plate to steal a piece of his pan- cake. Mine had disappeared way too fast. He playfully fake- slapped my hand away, and I pouted at him. “Selfish. That’s why no one likes you.”

“You not only like me, you love me, little one.” he fed me a fork full of pancake and gave me a satisfied smile. “After my first company became fully successful, I set up a trust fund for the Swansons. It made sense to help them after everything they did, and didn’t, do for me.” I knitted my eyebrows in confusion. “They didn’t hit me, or abuse me. Very few children get to spend their years in the system with people who truly care. Richard Swanson taught me how to hold a hammer, use

power tools, and fix cars.” His voice became more animated as he continued with the story, and those gray eyes smiled at the fondness of the moments he told. “Thanks to him and those skills, I held a few jobs during college. And was able to begin my first company. Last year I moved them to Austin, Texas. They’re getting old, and the weather is nice year-round.”

Clan

by Realm Lovejoy

Summary from Goodreads:

clan

Clans are Unity.

No variation. No deviation.

On Clades, to be a Clan is to be an exact copy.

A perfect society cloning themselves to survive, even as the zombielike Frags threaten to overrun them on an unforgiving planet.

Clan 1672 (privately known as Twain) was never supposed to survive the Incubation Tank.

But he did. Illegally.

He is different from the other Clans.

A secret that could destroy him.

MY REVIEW

I received a ebook copy, in exchange for an honest review.

clan movie poster

This is one of those books that come to my hands unexpectedly a sci-fi distopya and a simple summary. I knew little of what to expect, the words cloned society is perhaps the starting point to focus your attention to this book.

How the author would do to develop a society in which all individuals are clones and the story will keep it to the expectation? The name for this answer: Clan 672 aka Twain.

Twain, the imperfect clone in a "perfect world", the quotes are because as advancements in reading you will notice that, although with clones, society is imperfect. And just a little spark call for individuality Tawain will be questioned within a set of social norms.

These rules and Twain will take you to the core of the creation of this society, which will take you to the sights and unimaginable situations. Managing to a good story until end.

The secondary characters? Even if it is a cloned society you bring some surprises with secondary characters, another extra point, very well done. Fluidly connected with the main character. Making the impossible possible within the story. It has very modern elements, and is clear about the type of genre that is written

The book intrigued me, made me want to know more about this society, is very well developed. Questioning  at the same time  intriguing, response giving unexpected turns, with a rhythm in a quiet beginning and ending with a great taste,  it is these small and simple covers with a synthesis  small but inside with a great story waiting to be read.

I want to clarify that I received a copy in ebook format, apparently in paperback format has graphics on it, you can see some viewed as the beginning of this post on the website, if they have the opportunity to acquire it, do it!

It is a huge bonus, well worth worth it.

My stars : 4.5
