(Book 1)

by Peiri Ann

Release Date: April 2014

BURDENED eBook 1563x2500
Summary from Goodreads:

Eighteen-year-old Tracey Warren is a ‘run-of-the-mill’ high school student on the verge of
graduation. She has her friends and her fun; she has life all figured out. Or she thought she did.
Her pedestrian reality crashes around her after an innocuous touch from a diabolically
handsome stranger. Just one touch from Nathan Newcomb and her head and her world spins out
of control. Soon she discovers that the only cure for the uneasy feelings and pain is Nathan
himself. A man whose very existence balances between violent chaos and rigidly controlled
dangers.
Nathan knows that the life of a woman mated to a burdened Sephlem is destined for peril beyond
a human’s reckoning. But Tracey calls to his desire to experience love in spite of the hazards.
And Nathan’s impossibly potent magnetism draws Tracey into a bonding that will put her in
mortal danger again and again.
Once the pair becomes one, the threat escalates and nowhere is safe. There are enemies that lurk
behind every corner. But the greatest danger may be in the bloodlines that course through
Nathan’s veins.
Can a love for all time survive or will their burdened souls surrender and fade away?

 THE EXCERPT

Scott stays at least ten blocks away from us. This is going to be a long walk.
“So, I’m the first guy you’ve ever introduced to your mom as your boyfriend?”
I feel my cheeks warm. “Yeah, I don’t introduce my mom to guys. I haven’t cared much
about her meeting them, especially if I wasn’t sure they would stick around.”
“So you met my family; I met your mom. I think we can make this official, so the next time
you’re introducing me and what I am to you, you won’t have to think about it.”
“So us meeting each other’s family is what makes us official? What about the whole having
sex part?”
“Hey!” He throws up his hands. “You’re the one who’s uncertain. I know what you are to
me.”
“And what is that?”
He throws his arm around me. “You’re my mate, my girl, my love, my heart—and my
future wife and mother of my children, when we are both ready.” He double steps. “No confusion
here.” This is free-and-relaxed Nathan—light voice and not intense. This ‘him,’ makes me incredibly
comfortable, like he’s normal.
“Clearly,” I say. “But I wasn’t confused. I just didn’t know how to introduce you to her. Like
I said, I’ve never done it before, and I didn’t know how she was going to react.”
“She was cool about it. Not a hair out of place. I think she likes me.”
“She might. I think she just thinks you’re cute.”
“Do you think I’m cute?”
“I think ‘cute’ is an understatement. When God made you, he was breaking all the limitation
rules.”
“You think God made me?” he asks, more serious.
“Of course. Who else?”
“Well, considering I’m half demon and all.”
“It’s not what you’re made of, it’s what you make of yourself. You make who you are—no
one else. We are not who we are because of where we come from or what people make us out to be,
but because of what we want to be.
“You’re not a demon,” I continue. “You just possess demon behaviors, but you know that,
you don’t let it consume you, and you’ve bettered yourself—which means you were made by God
and not by a demon.”
He doesn’t respond. I stay quiet too, holding onto his hand that hangs over my shoulder.
My mom’s words start playing back in my head. I can’t imagine what it is that they want to
talk about. And keeping a clear schedule for two days? When my dad comes back, we usually do
things as a family, staying out all day or going away for a few days.
To be without Nathan for a full day makes me remember that ache in my chest.
“What are you thinking about, babe?”
“Keeping a clear schedule.”

About the Author

peiri ann
I fell in love with the short story writing after I started reading a lot of fiction fantasy. I loved the
idea of creating new worlds and placing people to live within them. Then came the love.
Awe...love. Specifically I love to write paranormal romance, adding a twist to everyday life. I'm
a lover of YA and NA, but I've written some middle grade fantasy fiction that is soon to be
released.

You can never write 'too much,' you can never read 'too much,' you never learn 'too much,' and
there is never 'too much' imagination and creation. Everyday is a new day to dream, to create,
to love, to try again and again, to live, and to explore. Time may be short but we have to take as
much of it as we can, to make sure it doesn't slip away.

Breaking Fences

- Excerpt 02 -

I fed the horses, made sure they had plenty of water, asked Tom which horses to get ready, and after he spat out the names of eight of them, I got them tacked and into the arena.

The guide, Larry, a man of about forty with sand-blond hair and a mustache, arrived five minutes before the first customer did and he didn’t even say thanks for all I did.

By the time the group left, I was exhausted. I went inside, grabbed some water from the fountain inside Tom’s office, and sat on the second to last step of a flight of stairs directly across from Midnight’s stall. I could hear hammering and cursing coming from the tack room, but honestly, I was too tired to move a muscle, let alone stand to go see if they were all right.

Midnight stuck his head out of the stall and nickered at me. He had tried catching my attention all morning, but the most I did was pet him while I checked on his food and water.

“Hey, big boy. How is it going?” He moved his head up and down, and I smiled. “Sorry. Can’t move. Give me a few minutes and I promise I’ll pet you, okay?”

He nickered again and I watched him. He was so beautiful, so strong, so alive. If I were in any condition, I would be tacking him right now and taking him for a ride.

Tom came out of the tack room cursing.

“How is it going in there?” I asked.

He cursed some more and walked past me. He went into his office and came back a minute later, carrying a box of nails and a hammer. He branded it in the air. “Broke the other one.”

“What?” I laughed.

He glared at me. “It’s not funny.” He disappeared into the tack room.

I stayed seated on the stairs for over fifteen minutes, while hammering and cursing echoed on the background. Finally, I was able to move again. Midnight nickered as soon as I stood. Smiling, I approached him and embraced him. He nipped at my hair and muzzled my neck.

“Are you gonna make out with the horse?” Garrett asked.

I turned my face to his voice. He was under the doorframe of the tack room. “He’s not my type.”

Garrett raised an eyebrow. “What type is your type?”

Boldness filled me. “I like tall guys, with strong arms, who usually wear cowboy boots and hats. Oh, my kind of guy also rocks dirty jeans and a sweaty T-shirt.”

The corner of his lip curled up, and he shook his head. “Too much bark, not too much bite.”

I let go of Midnight, turned around, and leaned against the horse stall, staring at him while Midnight poked my back with his muzzle.

“Come closer and we’ll see about that.”

His eyes darkened and his jaw popped. He took a step toward me.

THE REVIEW

Hellou! everyone , This day we have a book that certainly has that essence of a YA with a touch of fantasy and fairy tale must not miss.

Do not fall tells us the more modern history, while taking the side of fantasy, and more adapted to the style of the author, of "Rapunzel".

Particularly I think YA lovers, the girls in love and looking for a love story, I will love this book. It has a clean touch of what we know in the stories and the natural charm of a story of fantasy .

Our characters are cute, and they naturally defined hooks you to them. The girl: Anya, his life is complicated, as it has many limitations, but it is to enjoy life through your photographic camera and some books. The only place she can visit the library sometimes is. The boy: Zander, about to go to college, is charming, handsome, intelligent and loves to read, and is the dream of every girl.

When Anya Zander takes a picture to Zander not wanting be discovered , the opposite happens, Zander realizes her presence and so begins this tale, but not everything will be easy, remember those limits? well, it's thanks to Anya's mother and a story that help the plot.

I liked this reading, was a breath and a moment of relaxation and wanting to enjoy such a real book, you'll remember the essence of a story of fiction, it is a small book that you will not have trouble reading because reading is very fast. I love the characters, they are a very cute couple and they could imagine each. His writing is clean and tender, beautifully weaves history with the element found.

THE EXCERPT

The Barricades by Cate Dean:

Daniel Reed fought for his life.

But he knew, even as he ducked the blow meant for his face, that the three boys who dragged him out here wouldn’t stop until he lay bleeding at their feet.

He decided to make it as difficult as possible.

“Is that the best you can do, Mandore?” Tomas Hurdy, the obvious instigator, taunted the tall boy who had just taken the swing at Daniel. “My baby sister can throw a better punch.”

I bet she can. Daniel stumbled backward over ground left ridged by the terra machines.

Hurdy probably came out of the womb punching.

Hurdy barreled toward Daniel, all two hundred plus pounds of him. Daniel waited until the last possible moment and leaped sideways. Hurdy roared past him, tripped on a rock hard ridge and slammed face first into the dirt.

Daniel spun around, knowing that retaliation would be swift, and probably fatal—and ran smack into his third tormentor. Trevor Harp—someone he thought was his friend.

Before he could escape Trevor grabbed his right arm and wrenched it up behind his back. The pain nearly doubled him.

“Good job, Trev.” Hurdy dusted off his shirt as he stood. “Now hold him still.”

Through a blur of pain Daniel saw the long, curved knife appear in Hurdy’s right hand. Panic lent him strength and he struggled to free himself. Trevor tightened his grip, caught Daniel’s left wrist, leaving him completely defenseless.

Hurdy buried the knife in Daniel’s left arm, just below the elbow. He screamed, agony exploding through him. The knife was iron—and would keep him from healing the wound himself.

“Shut him up!” Hurdy hissed. Trevor obeyed and let go of Daniel’s right arm, reaching up to cover his mouth. The returning blood flow was a small pain compared to the fire raging down his left arm. Hurdy followed with the blade, opening his forearm to the wrist.

“That’s a good start.”

Daniel screamed again when Hurdy yanked out the knife. Blood poured down his hand, pooled on the hard packed dirt. What was left of his strength ran out with the blood and he collapsed against Trevor.

“I think that’s enough,” Trevor said, his voice quiet. He let go of Daniel’s mangled arm and caught him around the waist, holding him upright. “We were not told to kill him, Tom.”

“Well, I guess the rabble got carried away. Walk now, Trev, if you don’t have the stomach. I’m going to cut on him a while, make up some for what his dad took from mine.”

Daniel swallowed, heart pounding. Hurdy Senior had stolen from Father, lied about it, and been punished severely. Now he was about to pay for the rash decision to make the older Hurdy an example.

Mandore moved in, clenching and unclenching his fists. “Tom, I don’t think—”

Hurdy turned on him. “You losing your nerve too?” Daniel knew he wasn’t meant to survive this—not with Hurdy using iron on him, and throwing around names. Names Daniel recognized. “Wouldn’t you do the same if you had the chance? Self-righteous bastard had no call—”

“She did not authorize this,” Trevor said.

“Just shut your mouth!” Hurdy raised the bloody knife, the point inches from Trevor’s face. Trevor flinched, but he didn’t pull away. “You hear me, Trev—I’m in charge. She put me in charge—”

“Why?” Daniel’s raw whisper cut through the tirade.

Hurdy smiled, and instead of using the knife again, he flipped the pendant Daniel wore out of the way and dug the sharp edge of his garnet signet ring into the left side of Daniel’s chest.

Daniel tried to jerk away. One hand fisted in his hair, halted his retreat.

“Since you’ll be dead,” Hurdy tightened his grip, “you don’t need to know.”

EXCERPT

When I walked into Maddox it was like another world. You would never know from the outside that behind that plain black door lay a world full of champagne, seared tuna and a six-foot tall supermodel/DJ. I saw Lucinda and walked towards her table, slightly slipping in my wet heels just before the stairs. I sat down and was immediately offered champagne.

“Hello, I’m François,” said a Ryan Gosling look-a-like in a very sexy French accent, “what is your name?”

“I’m Paige.” I smiled. God people were so nice here, why didn’t I move to London when I was, like, born?

“Paige? Like in a book? How unique!” At least I was off to a great start with him. “Well, Paige like in a book, what do you study here in London?”

“I -”

Lucinda got my attention.

“Chicken you look fabulous. Let me introduce you to everyone else.” As she rolled off several names I would never remember I looked at where I was and who I was with. Not only was there nothing like this at home, it definitely wasn’t free and full of models. Food. Check. Champagne. Check. Guys who look like Ryan Gosling. Check. It might have actually been heaven. Hopefully I hadn’t been hit by one of those big red double decker buses and died, but then again, if I had, my afterlife was awesome.
