A tattoo gets them in trouble… He will get them out.

After years of cultivating an undercover identity, Brody West is finally off the case and free to live a life of his own. All that time spent in the company of criminals and killers left him a little jaded… and with an identity crisis. He isn’t sure who he is anymore, or who he wants to be.

To give him time to think, he takes a few days off to go fishing. On his way out of town, he makes a routine stop at the bank and finds himself flirting with the girl behind the counter.

But his flirtation is cut short when criminals burst into the bank and shoot her right before his eyes.

In attempt to administer first aid, Brody reveals a tattoo on his back. A mark that will drag him and the girl into the kind of situation he was trying to get away from. But he can’t walk away because he’s the only thing capable of keeping Taylor alive and bringing down the guys who shot her—guys who are seriously dangerous.

THE EXCERPT

TATTOO

Copyrighted by Cambria Hebert

I wasn’t going to let her be punished for the bad luck that I was at her window when the bank was held up.

I would protect her.

And I would bring these fuckers down.

The symbol on my back gave me an automatic in. The badge attached to my real name gave me the authority to do what I thought was necessary. These guys thought they were getting an ally.

They were wrong.

I glanced out the window, noting we were heading out of downtown Raleigh and traveling into one of the nearby towns. The driver played it smart, not driving erratically, not drawing any kind of attention to the van. He obeyed all the traffic laws and stayed within the speed limit.

A minivan was a good choice because it looked like a mom car, not a criminal mobile. Cops probably wouldn’t look twice at it unless it was driving at unusual speeds.

Plus, it had room in the back for all the stolen money.

A million questions bounced around in my head. I wondered where we were going. How long they planned to drive. What their plans were now. But I didn’t ask because crew members always played it cool. They always acted like they had things under control. If I started acting fidgety, nervous, or questionable, it would not be good for me. Or Taylor.

I glanced down to find her looking at me. Her green eyes were tight with pain and they latched onto my face as if the only thing anchoring her to consciousness was me.

I felt the weight of her green-eyed stare like an anvil around my neck. I swallowed, trying to get some air past the tight feeling closing my throat. Usually in these situations, the only person I had to look after was myself.

And if I were honest, then I would admit the reason I made such a good undercover cop was because I didn’t really care much about what happened to me. They always say the most dangerous man is a man with nothing to lose. Well, that’s me. For years I lived by that code. For

years I put myself in death’s path, pushing the limits, stepping over the boundaries between right and wrong.

It always paid off.

Yet as Taylor’s emerald eyes watched me, I felt the chains of responsibility wrap around my chest. Suddenly, I had someone to worry about that wasn’t me. Suddenly, the thought of losing the way she held on to me as if her life depended on it seemed like a very big thing.

“Where are we going?” I asked, my voice a little harsher than I intended.

Eyes met mine in the rearview mirror. “You’ll see.”

“She needs medical attention,” I bit out, not caring if I sounded challenging.

Her slim, cold fingers wrapped around my forearm. The impulse to cover her light, cold grip with mine was strong, but my arms were supporting her body and I couldn’t risk taking away that support.

“You’re gonna be okay,” I told her, keeping my voice as low as I could.

Her fingers tightened around my arm.

Excerpt from The Devil’s Tattoo

How the band gets its name

Dee pulled out another notebook from his bag and tossed it to me. "Write the lyrics."

I look at the empty notebook and Dee's tattered one that's full of ideas and marks and don't know where to start. I try not to think about it too much as I grab a pen and write out the music best I can. It's already there, I just have to translate it into something coherent. But, when it comes to the words, I see what Dee's written and it could be a song for me. No wonder he wants me to change it. He wants the song to be from me, instead. My side of the story.

The couch dipped next to me and Dee stuck his head over my shoulder to see what I'm writing. I pressed the notebook into my chest and he tried to snatch it away.

"Hey," I cried. "I like you and all Dee, but stop trying to feel me up."

His lips curved into a sly smile and he knew that I was onto him and for once I don't argue.

"What are we gunna call ourselves?" Frank asked. Before Chris could open his mouth he added, "No ideas accepted form Chris."

"Why not?” he grumbled.

"We're not into Morrissey," Dee laughed.

"I think Empty Hands is a good name for an indie band," I said kindly.

"Thanks, Zoe," Chris smiled and tapped his bottle against mine.

"We're not a pansy mopey indie band," Frank said and beat on his chest. "I want to beat the shit outta those skins, for one. I'm too manly to get in touch with my feminine side."

Dee's watching me with a frown and I realize I've been running a finger along the scar on my arm.

"Tattoo," he said, his eyes meeting mine.

"What?" I jumped and tucked my hands under my legs.

"Tattoo," he said again and I could almost see the light bulb over his head. "The Devil's Tattoo."

As soon as he says it, I knew he wanted to name the band after me. I can't help but wonder who the devil is meant to be. The devil scarred my arm and I covered it with a tattoo.

"Dee," I began to scold him.

"Bloody LOVE IT," Frank shouted, on his feet.

"It's not like that, Zoe," Dee whispered in my ear. "You're my phoenix from the ashes. You're my version of the devil, babe."

It sounded like he was declaring his love for me and in a way he was, but not like that. Dee's my brother. Dee's my family.

I smiled at him. "The Devil's Tattoo."

"All in favor?" Dee asked, but it's already been decided.

"Hell yeah!" everyone shouted, and it's done.

*** REVIEW ***

Some try to tell me,Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be,You will be in the end
And I love you,Yes, I love you -- The Moody blues.

-ARC kindly provided by an author in exchange for honest review -

Someone once said that music is the life that once we lived, that we are living and we want to live. Someone more said than the direction of our dreams match that of our nightmares and It will make us wonder where were those magical days and that maybe this is our last goodbye. But life always put us in front of two roads, which would you choose for wager? the highway to hell or a stairway to heaven?

How would you describe the book? : great! Its content shows the soul of rock n roll : music, sex and the most powerful drug in the universe: love.

When I first saw the title of the new book by Nicole R. Taylor, I had some curiosity to know of it was going to to treat. Later I read the synopsis and just by reading the word music had me trapped.

In this book, We will know to Zoe Granger and Will Strickland (Ok, agree!  Will is one of my new favorite male characters, is so hot and tender at the same time ...). Ok, ok reconnect again, Well as I said these guys take us to the backstage of his fears and to the concert of their lives. And end of the tour, they show us, which way they decided  choose, which leads to the road to hell or heaven stairs.

The characters are varied, and in this the author  does not stop surprising me, She know how to define and how to transmit that character very well. In the main characters this: Zoé Greanger, that through music and thanks to his friend Dee goes ahead after a chaotic breakup. If you're a girl, you can log in fine with her and there is something in their history that for me is a great lesson at the end of the book. The Girl Power is present with this girl.  On the male side, we have to the sexy Will Strickland .... He ... I told you he is Hot? ... And He is a musician ...? Mix the tender and sexy Wao, very well. He show us that having a supposed "bad reputation" does not mean you will not suffer , or  he to act so. And of course, I do not forget to Dee, Zoe's best friend, is one of those characters that relax a little the story with his jokes or sarcasm or whatever thing, when you're on the edge of the seat. As he says: I leave descubirir the mystery of the soul of this character.

As I said is a great book, really enjoyed it, has that rich mix of music, a story, has a touch Hot, and not bad, goes according with the story. Although maybe a little bit is his Achilles heel, by the books with erotic themes that have come out, but outside it is G-R-E-A-T.

One of the things that pleased me the book is that not only know the version of Zoe, it also the version of Will is here. Thanks Nicole for making this happen!
Another thing that won me: music, The Kills! One of my favorite rock bands! present, and not only that, put the musical compositions of the main characters added an extra point. I had not seen this in any current book.

I hope to read soon another book of this type Nicole Taylor, and if dear readers at the end of The Devil's Tattoo can find a synopsis of a new project this author.

Do not forget to visit the website of Nicole, She is putting  recently  (as I say) a Backstage of the book, I mean additional data, the trailerbook, playlist and others. If you want to visit,  you click on the logo image of  The Devil's Tattoo,in the section with name: EVENTS  on the right side of this page.

From my part is all, To enjoy the music and life and books, Thanks Nicole R. Taylor for this book! See you in your  next story :-) !
